Decatur County was created in 1822 and named for war of 1812 Naval hero Stephen Decatur. The county contains over 372.6 square miles.

Decatur County is conveniently located in Southeastern Indiana along Interstate 74 half-way between the two major metropolitan cities of Indianapolis, IN and Cincinnati, OH both around 50 miles by car. Also within an 1 1/2 hour car drive is Louisville, KY. Other major highways connecting to Decatur County are U.S. Highway 421 and State Roads 46 and 3.

Decatur County consists of two public school corporations--Decatur County Community School Corporation and Greensburg Community School Corporation. We also have several private options from preschool through high school. A variety of secondary education opportunities are also offered through the Greensburg Community Learning Center which offers classes from area colleges and universities such as IUPUC, Ivy Tech Community College, and Purdue College of Technology.
